General Theatre
Grade Levels: 9-12 Credit: 1 Prerequisite: None
Assessments: Unit Test, Quizzes, Projects, Minor Performances Independent Work: Edpuzzle videos, Projects, Research This is a beginning level course for those wishing to get an overview of theatre as an art form. This course focuses on basic theatre terminology, backstage jobs, history, storytelling, voice, and movement through discussion, projects, and minimal in class group performances. Students will work to develop skills/understanding of voice, body language, communication, and confidence that will aid them in the future. |
Intro to Performance
Grade Level: 9 - 12 Credit: 1 per term Prerequisite: None
Assessments: Performances, Quizzes, One-Act Play (in class) Independent Work: Memorization, Rehearsal, Research This is a beginner level, interactive class that builds students skills in acting, movement, voice, improvisation, and character development. Students are expected to come to class ready to move, speak, listen, and try new things. This class will work on getting you out of your comfort zone through performances, projects, and class discussions. |
Advanced Performance
Grade Level: 10 -12 Credit: 1 per term
Prerequisite: Intro or General Theatre & audition (March) Independent Work: Memorization, Rehearsal (personal & group) Assessments: Memorization, Projects, Evaluations, Final Play Performance This is an upper level, performance-based class that builds on previously learned skills in acting, movement, voice, and character development. Students will continue to develop their skills through the collaborative process of play production and will showcase their skills in a full-scale play at the end of the term. This class does require afterschool rehearsals, technical hours, and mandatory attendance at all productions. This class also offers limited non-acting positions including light technician, sound designer, stage manager, and assistant director. |
Musical Theatre
Grade Level: 10 -12 Credit: 1 per term
Prerequisite: Intro Theatre or Intro Choir/music class Independent Work: Memorization, Rehearsal (personal & group) Assessments: Memorization, Projects, Evaluations, Final Performance This class will focus on each of the three main concentrations of musical theater: singing, dance, and character studies. Great emphasis will be placed on recognizing the relevance of each discipline as it relates to musical theater and preparing students for auditions and musical theater performances. The class period will be devoted to- 1) vocal development, 2) improving acting skills, 3) learning choreography; all to help students develop musical theatre skills. The culmination of this course will result with students gaining a broader understanding of musical theater from their participation in a fun and exciting musical theater performance experience that will increase their abilities and help them to become well rounded performers. |
Technical Theatre
Grades Available: 10th, 11th, 12th Credit: 1 per year
Independent Work: None Assessments: Design Deadlines Prerequisites: General Theatre, Intro to Performance, or Teacher Recommendation Students in Technical Theatre will actively engage in the process of designing, building, managing, and implementing the technical aspects of production. Technical elements include scenic design/construction, lighting, costuming, make-up, sound, and house/business management. Designs will be used in all performances throughout the year. |
